Oceanside Pier

The first pier here was built in 1888, but that Pacific Ocean just keeps knocking them down. This is pier number 6.

Once you are out of LA, Oceanside is about an hour and a half drive south down highway 5. The last half an hour after Dana Point and through San Clemente is along the coast through archetypal affluent clean and neat California.

There’s always a good few anglers on the pier and from what I’ve seen, catching dinner isn’t too hard. It’s also a good place to watch the surfers, the town even has a Surf Museum, although I’ve never quite got around to looking for it.

However, the Art Museum is close and worth a look.

Lunch is at Ruby’s at the end of the pier.
