SOUTHWOLD PIER SADLY DAMAGED
A gale seriously damaged Southwold Pier on Wednesday afternoon. The piles were loosening. and during the night the entire north end of the Tee Head was washed away together with the shelters on it. A twelve-inch pile snapped like matchwood, and the section looks as if cut off with a saw and the deck of the remainder like a switchback, the supporting piles having been driven a long way out of position. The pier deck is a mass of ice and frown sea water. Same of the piles under the main pier were also broken.
