DESTRUCTION OF THE PIER AT NICE
FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. PARIS, April 5.
The newspapers publish a few details regarding the destruction of the Nice pier. The fire broke out at five in the afternoon and spread with astounding rapidity. The heat consequent on the fire was so great that the crowds which had assembled on the Promenade des Anglais and the Quai du Midi could not stand it and withdrew. The building, which is completely destroyed, was insured for a considerable amount.
